Tughans Solicitors is the largest commercial law firm in Northern Ireland.

Tughans has its principal office in Belfast with further offices in Derry and Lurgan and currently employs in excess of 120 staff, of whom more than 50 are qualified lawyers. Great emphasis is placed on building relationships with clients, getting to know their businesses and objectives. With a client base of local, national and international businesses, banks, government authorities and entrepreneurs, Tughans concentrates primarily on six principal areas of law:

Corporate Law (including IT/IPR Law) - mergers and acquisitions, management buyouts, management buy-ins, venture capital related work and inward investment to Northern Ireland by national and international businesses and entrepreneurs.

Property Law - planning issues, acquisitions and disposals, leases and licences, option agreements, environmental issues, construction contracts, development agreements and structuring of documents for residential sites and sales in respect of such sites.

Litigation - defence litigation where the firm represents a number of leading insurers and commercial litigation where the firm deals with such matters as building contract disputes and breach of contract which includes arbitration, mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and the involvement of the Commercial Court. The practice also handles professional negligence cases on behalf of medical defence organisations.

Employment Law - employment and service contracts, disciplinary proceedings, restrictive covenants, discrimination, health and safety issues, termination, unfair dismissal and transfer of undertakings (TUPE).

Banking and Finance - facility and security documentation for all kinds of financings, acquisition finance, commercial property financings, re-financings, cross border transactions and financing of PFI/PPP Projects.

PFI/PPP - all aspects of PFI/PPP projects from the initial structuring and tendering of projects to the implementation of funding arrangements and financial close.

Tughans has established a formal link with William Fry Solicitors, Dublin with the aim of providing a seamless All-Ireland legal service to clients with interests in both jurisdictions. Tughans maintains close links with a number of leading firms in the City of London and overseas often handling the Northern Ireland aspects of multi-jurisdictional transactions.

Last night Tughans was recognised as ‘Business Consultancy of the Year’, at the annual UTV/ Business Eye Awards held at the Culloden Hotel, Cultra, Co Down.

During the month of November, Tughans will draw up basic wills free of charge. Instead of paying for the service, clients are asked to make a donation to the Will Aid charities.
